Okay so if you are planning a Great Gatsby themed wedding and you and your fiancé are into whisky what better place to have it than at The Howey Mansion! Both Lindsey and Chris are big fans of whisky. I knew there was a reason we hit it off from the get go! When I finally had a chance to do their engagement shoot and found out that they truly are big fans of whisky and even go to the same specialty liquor store as I do(big shout out to Five Star Liquor in Longwood). So when you think of 1920's, The Great Gatsby, and Whisky there is one venue here in the Orlando area and that is The Howey Mansion. The Howey Mansion is a 20 room mansion built in 1925 sitting on 15 acres in Howey in The Hills Florida. Not only is this venue a perfect setting for just about any wedding but for you whisky lovers there is even a secret room. As you walk into the library you would never know that inside is a secret latch. When you turn this latch it unlocks a secret stone door that sits flush on the wall. The weight of the door is surprising as it is so solid even if you were banging on the wall you would never know there is a door behind it. The door leads you down a winding stair case that puts you to the door of a bank vault. Once opened up you enter into the basement that you would never know is there. Rumor has it is that this is where Mr. Howey hide his liquor cache and had evenings of cards and drinking with friends. This evening Lindsey and Chris used the vault to showcase some different whiskies for their friends and family to enjoy in a historic location where people used to hide from the law. You seriously need to tour this property and see all the amazing nuances that The Howey Mansion has. This historic property is unlike any other venue here in Central Florida. It is one of those venues that you could literally throw a rock and wherever it lands take and epic photo. One thing that is frustrating about being a wedding photographer in Orlando is the lack of architecture. So needless to say with a venue with such history and beauty I was in heaven!
